Cedar Shake Roofing in the Berkeley Lake Area

On a wooded lot, cedar looks right at home, but it behaves like the wood it is, swelling in wet weather and shrinking when it dries. A cedar roof holds up only when it is built for that cycle: deliberate gaps so each shake can expand, a felt interlayment under every course to turn stray water outward, an open air path beneath so the wood dries from both faces, and stainless or coated fasteners that will not streak or corrode. Skip those, and you get curled, split, mossy shakes years too early. We photograph the condition of an existing cedar roof and estimate how much of it is affected. Localized trouble means swapping the failing shakes and renewing the flashing around them. Roof-wide wear means starting over with fresh cedar usually costs less in the long run, and we quote it fully. Cedar also creates its own kind of mess, with splinters, shake fragments and old felt that scatter farther than shingle debris. The staging plan covers it: lawn and beds under the work zone are covered, fragments are gathered through the day and again at the close of each workday, and the final sweep looks for wood bits as carefully as for nails.
